Dispatches from Quarantine:
Young People on Covid-19

Invisible Monster

Sometimes this all feels like a joke
Like someone is pulling the wool over our eyes
Like they’re off in the corner watching us and laughing
To see if we are afraid of the invisible monster that they swear is really there
People trying not to touch their faces
Hiding in the shadows behind their curtains while peeking out trying to catch a glimpse of
The invisible monster.
Don’t go to the store! Order online!
No more hugs! Wave from a distance!
No concerts or parties or trips to New York!
No summer flight to the ocean to see grandma and grandpa!
The invisible monster might have a seat on the plane
The invisible monster might be in line at the store
The invisible monster might be visiting your neighbor next door
I know this is not a joke and the monster is real
But it sure would be easier to accept this new routine
If the monster weren’t invisible and could be seen.
