Dispatches from Quarantine:
Young People on Covid-19

Adel Rahmoun

The bright rays of the sun
Shine on my delicate eyes
Laziness and pain taking over
Not letting me get out of bed
They pin me to bed
No matter how hard I try
It’s no use

I remember the
Beads of sweat
Sizzling down the side of my face
Heart pounding, ears drumming
Shooting the winning shot
Looking at the ball soaring
Like an eagle in the air
But I’m still pinned
It’s no use

Oh the cool summer nights
The ones I so dearly miss
Out with the boys, watching
The scariest movies
Or just on the roof
Smelling the nice breeze of summer
But I’m still pinned
It’s no use

No matter what or how
I think of this pandemic
I come back to the same conclusion
Pinned, nowhere to go
Feeling a mental break down
Edging its way to my brain
Trying to conquer what’s left of my sanity
Slowly taking over
Wrapping its arms around every organ
Every strand of hope
Like a disease
I try to wriggle free
Just one last breath
But I’m still pinned
It’s no use
